This new play by Darren Ivany collides the past with the present, set in a decaying bar that has seen its fortunes rise and fall alongside Newfoundland itself. The bar’s heyday was in the 60s and 70s, before the moratorium and before resettlement cast so many various Cape Shore communities asunder. Now, the bar is barely hanging on, relying mostly on tourists during the summer season.  At the helm of this slowly sinking ship are Agnes Ryan and her daughter Maxine. The matriarchs of the bar have done their best, but now Agnes is giving up. Her daughter, Maxine, still believes they have a chance, and is desperate to keep the bar afloat, and to repair their fracturing relationship. As a terrible storm threatens to tear through the Cape Shore and finally put an end to the Ryans’ meager livelihood, their one handed handyman (who has a hook for the other hand) hits the jackpot on the bar’s VLT during a lightning strike. But what comes out will change everything: a real, true, verifiable... time machine. With exactly one use remaining. Once word gets out about Paddy’s “time traveling clicker”, the bar is inundated with an international cadre of folks desperate to turn back time and return to glory days. There’s Gord and Kathy, a bickering, but lovable Ontario couple on the verge of divorce, Nathaniel Stevens, a professor emeritus for the British Museum working in the “crypto-archeology department”, and Ingrid, a vivacious and recently divorced Swedish woman who wants to go back in time so she can party with ABBA in their prime. With only a single use remaining on the time machine, each party is scheming to ensure they can relive their golden years. This fracas is set to a raucous musical backdrop featuring 70s rock and disco, ABBA, the Rocky Horror Picture Show’s “The Time Warp”, and much more.
