This new play by Darren Ivany features a dynamic ensemble of actors who serve up laughs and a 3-course meal. The past and the present collide, in a decaying bar that has seen its fortunes rise and fall alongside Newfoundland itself.
The bar’s heyday was in the 60s and 70s, before the moratorium and before resettlement cast so many communities asunder. Now, the bar is barely hanging on, relying mostly on tourists during the summer season. At the helm of this slowly sinking ship are Agnes Ryan and her daughter Maxine. As a terrible storm threatens to tear through and finally put an end to the Ryans’ meager livelihood, their one handed handyman hits the jackpot on the bar’s VLT during a lightning strike.
But what comes out will change everything: a real, true, verifiable... time machine. This fracas is set to a raucous musical backdrop featuring 70s rock and disco, ABBA, the Rocky Horror Picture Show’s “The Time Warp”, and much more.
